Jowee’s Gumbo now at Chillax

Introducing Gumbo to Chillax Cafe & Restaurant!
Gumbo is perhaps the dish that represents both Creole cuisine and New Orleans the best. A thick stew-like soup slow cooked with sausage, shrimp and chicken. $18.50 including rice.
I have been cooking Gumbo since 2014. I discovered this fantastic meal from an expat party and thought it’s different. I’ve made it so many times with my own style and taste added that I’ve named it Jowee’s Gumbo. I put my own twist, time, and love on this recipe so people can enjoy it even more.
One day my friends asked me to sell Gumbo and it became a hit in my small town. One of the restaurants even wanted to buy my recipe, and failed at trying to create their own version. This is my own recipe and I am very proud to introduce my own version of Gumbo to New Zealand!
Right now, I can’t find any other restaurant in Christchurch that you can buy Gumbo, so this may become another signature dish at Chillax!

We’re Back!

We are very excited to welcome you back into Chillax Cafe & Restaurant this Thursday from 8am!
We’ll still be open for Click & Collect and deliveries going ahead, of course.
We’ve got our systems in place to make Chillax as safe as possible for our staff and customers so we can hit the ground running and get back to serving you the best food and coffee in a safe and enjoyable atmosphere.

Thanks to all our customers for keeping us very busy today making moms happy with our food! Happy Mothers Day to all the moms!!! We didn’t have time to eat ourselves until some of our amazing customers delivered us brownie and macaroni! Might as well make it pretty and take a photo lol. Maybe we should get brownie in the cafe and sell it sometime soon haha  <3

Chillax Cafe is open for click and collect or deliveries! 2/249 Stanmore Road, Richmond.
You can order on our website at www.chillax.co.nz by clicking “order online”, message us or txt/phone 022-340-0457.
At this stage we don’t have set hours that the cafe will be open, but we should be able to fulfill orders between 8am to 8pm, 7 days.
Pay by credit card online, bank deposit, eftpos (at the door) or cash.

Hokey Pokey Latte

Need coffee while the cafe is closed? Try this home-made Hokey Pokey Latte (or could be considered cappuccino since we frothed the milk). Just need sugar, baking soda, milk and coffee, and well, a coffee machine… We just did ours with the home Breville machine.
Can be done hot or cold but this one is hot. It’s a our first time trying it ourselves so go easy, but pretty tasty!!!

Re-opening at Level 3

To our amazing customers, we will be re-opening the doors next week at level 3. We will only be able to provide deliveries and contactless-pickup. We’ll update our menu before then with what we’ll have available. We’ll also hopefully have online ordering available from next week. During level 3 we’ll be maintaining strict cleanliness measures and social distancing. Further updates to come on exact re-opening schedule. Hope you’ve all be staying safe <3

Last day before lockdown

To all madlang Pinoy and Kiwis here in Christchurch, today is our last day to serve you ( until further notice ) as we all know we are on level 3 effectively yesterday afternoon. It is for the benefit of the people here in NZ so we are cooperating and taking this seriously. In behalf of Chillax family we hope for the best and INGAT! We can all get through this!!
